Join the team! We’re hiring a Grants and Programme Manager

@Steve Eason

ARE is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Grants and Programme Manager to help deliver the Windrush Justice Programme.

The Windrush Justice Programme is a new programme of support for organisations helping individuals secure their legal entitlement to remain in the UK.  The fund has been established by Paul Hamlyn Foundation,  Mayor of London, and  City Bridge Trust  (with others likely to be involved on an ongoing basis), and will be administered by a project team at Action for Race Equality.

About the role:

The Grant and Programme Manager will be responsible for managing the funding, recipients of the grants, consultants and all other key stakeholders to ensure this programme is delivered successfully.

This is a busy, “hands-on” role that involves detailed operational work along with sensitive stakeholder management. The post-holder will report directly to ARE’s Programme Director.

This is the perfect job for someone committed to tackling race inequalities; someone who wants to work with likeminded people to make a difference.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing grant programmes and of working with external stakeholders. They should have an understanding of the issues of the Windrush scandal and be aware of the main issues connected to this.

Deadline for applications: Wednesday 24th August, at 5pm.

Interviews will take place on the week commencing 12th September.

Background to the Windrush Justice Programme

In June 2020, Paul Hamlyn Foundation commissioned Windrush lawyer and campaigner, Jacqueline McKenzie to research the landscape for grassroots organisations working on the implications of the Windrush scandal.

The report ‘Assessing and Building the Capacity of Grassroots Community Groups to Respond to the Windrush Scandal’, completed in 2021, highlighted the remarkable work of grassroots organisations, who, with little to no resources, have together aided or met with over 5,000 victims and family members impacted by the Windrush scandal. In particular, their activism has enabled the issue to be kept in the public domain and has brought some pressure to bear on the government.

In response to the report and its recommendations, Paul Hamlyn Foundation together with City Bridge Trust and the Greater London Authority (other funders TBC), will be taking forward a number of recommendations through the Windrush Justice Programme with ARE.
