Growing up, I was always the only black person in the room. I never had a mentor, I made many mistakes which often resulted in my peers being promoted before me. I know, only too well, what it’s like trying to breakthrough to seize the moment.
Over the years I’ve gained the knowledge, skills and experience to understand how to progress, hence I’ve been promoted eleven times and am now at the very highest rank I can achieve in the Army. I’ve been mentoring since 1986, it’s now time to expand this outside the confines of the Army.
I know ARE focuses on levelling the playing field so black, Asian and minority ethnic youths have the same opportunities as everyone else. This is exactly why I am elated to be a patron.
